I woke up right after midnight, after just 2 hours of sleep.

The thoughts are there and I cannot fall asleep again.

Here is what my thoughts are about: There is a law in this country called Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Under this law a woman can simply claim that she is a domestic violence victim and she gets all the help she needs: Housing, Legal, Psychological, Medical, Employment and Immigration papers to stay in this country…

I was helping this women whose ex-husband was beating on her for 17 years. After her divorce I offered her my house. She and her 3 sons lived in my house for three years. I helped her with so many things: house, car, driver’s license, doctors, surgeries, money.

She told me she wanted to be my wife. I agreed to marry her so she can be legal in this country. I was then that trouble started.

Just after we got married everything changed. It was like she was looking for trouble. One day she left the house and ended up at the police station. The next day she called the police again because she wanted my car. It was MY car, and we had a pre-nup. The police came but she did not get the car and had to call a cab. Then I filed for divorce.

She then started looking for ways to retaliate. She contacted a VAWA agent and claimed there was verbal violence. After being in the shelter for a couple of weeks she signed a petition for a Temporary Protective Order that was full of lies.

So although the judge dismissed all the accusations and even granted me the divorce right then and there, I got hurt very much.

I now suffer from PTSD and I can’t find anyone that wants to help me.

I need help… I don’t want to live like this any more.

Alrietto,

You ought to go talk to a therapist. It would probably help you to talk to a professional to help you gain some insight and closure.

You also need to realize that you will never be able to completely understand her actions. The people that do what she did, they are emotionally dead. They are out only to help themselves, and anyone that gets in their way will be a casualty of some sort.

I know that I personally will never receive justice for what my ex-wife did. I can only hope that my actions in helping to create this website and forum, as well as our ongoing efforts to lobby Congress for change, will payoff when the VAWA immigration loophole is closed. If this is successful, I won't have justice or vindication, but I will have a sense of satisfaction in knowing I helped to prevent others from knowing the pain we all currently feel.

You are not alone.
